Viracure is a potent antiviral medication containing
Famciclovir, an oral prodrug of the antiviral agent penciclovir It offers a
molecular formula of C14H19NsO4 and a molecular weight of 3213
Pharmacological Properties:
- Mechanism of Action: Famciclovir is rapidly converted into
penciclovir, demonstrating activity against herpes simplex viruses (HSV types 1
and 2), varicellazoster virus, EpsteinBarr virus, and cytomegalovirus In
infected cells, penciclovir triphosphate inhibits viral DNA chain elongation,
halting viral DNA replication without affecting uninfected cells - Pharmacokinetics: Famciclovir is wellabsorbed and converted
to penciclovir Bioavailability was 77%, with peak plasma concentration
occurring at a median time of 45 minutes postdose Plasma concentration time
curves are similar for single and repeat dosing Extent of systemic availability
remains unaffected by food - Distribution: Penciclovir is poorly bound to plasma
proteins, and Famciclovir is eliminated mainly as penciclovir through urine

Viracure treats recurrent episodes - Â Herpes labialis (cold
sores): Effective in the treatment of recurrent herpes labialis - Â Recurrent episodes:
Used for recurrent episodes of genital herpes - Â HIVInfected Adult
Patients: For chronic suppressive therapy - Â Herpes zoster
(shingles): Effective in treating herpes zoster - Limitation of Use: Efficacy not established when initiated
more than 6 hours after onset of symptoms or lesions (genital herpes) or more
than 72 hours after onset of rash (herpes zoster)
