Atarax 10 mg Tablets Hydroxyzine 2HC:

Atara is a medication containing Hydroxyzine dihydrochloride as its active ingredient. It serves various purposes, including providing symptomatic relief for anxiety in adults, alleviating pruritus (itching), and acting as premedication before surgery.

 Dosage and Administration:

Hydroxyzine should be administered at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration. Dosage varies by age and condition:

•  Adults: For anxiety, the daily dose can range from 25 mg to 100 mg, divided into separate administrations. For pruritus, it typically starts at 25 mg at night and can be increased as needed
•  Children (from 12 months): Dosage depends on weight, ranging from 1 mg/kg/day up to 2 mg/kg/day
•  Special Populations: Elderly patients should use a reduced dose. Patients with renal or hepatic impairment should also adjust their dosage

 Contraindications:

Atarax its contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to hydroxyzine, certain medical conditions, and when taking specific medications

 Warnings and Precautions:

• Patients at risk of cardiac arrhythmia should use Atarax with caution due to its association with QT interval prolongation.
•  Caution is advised in patients with certain medical conditions like asthma, glaucoma, and respiratory
  disorders

• Patients should receive warnings about potential side effects such as fatigue, dizziness, and sedation, which might impair their ability to drive or operate machinery

• Concurrently consuming Atarax with alcohol or tranquilizers is not advisable.

 Adverse Effects:

Common side effects include somnolence, headache, and dry mouth. Less common effects encompass dizziness, insomnia, constipation, and more. In rare cases, severe adverse reactions have been reported

 Over-dosage:

• Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, confusion, and more. In severe cases, it may lead to coma and cardiorespiratory collapse
